Writing Links

5 on Writing Logo An Occasional Series, where I link to some interesting reading on the subject of writing from around the webosphere.

Link 1 : Unasked-for Advice to New Writers About Money

Jack Scalzi’s article published on his blog in February of this year, in which he suggests writers as a group, hold no money sense, and suggests (amongst many other tips) that we marry someone who is good with money – like his wife is. Of course, there is much more of sense in here, and it’s worthwhile reading for newbie writers like me.

Link 2 : The Urban Muse : Why Should Writers Blog?

Susan Johnston, a freelance writer, suggests that blogging writers can connect with other writers in this way. I guess she probably doesn’t realise I’m connected to her, though – because I subscribed to The Urban Muse through a feedreader.

Link 3 : Forbe’s World’s Best Paid Authors

I’m not surprised about who features on this list (available in pictures too) but I must admit I am constantly surprised by how much JK Rowling becomes increasingly attractive (and blonder) every time I see a new photo of her. Is it showing my age that I can say – I remember some of her first media appearances when Harry Potter fever took over the world?

Link 4 : The Big Bad Book Blog : Book Tours in Your Bathrobe

Although virtual blog book tours are not new to me (I participated in one for a new scrapbooking book, The Book of Us, run by author Angie Pedersen a couple of years back), this article also suggests joining up with a blog community so that you can find fellow blog authors to guest star on blogs with. Any one wanting a guest blog (with link back to your own) on this blog?

Link 5 : James from Men With Pens asks us : Are You Here for a Good Time, or a Long Time?

I particularly liked this one, as it is almost counter to the programs for internet marketing and businesses I am currently doing. In these, I’m told that if I don’t have an audience here on this blog, then it’s time to move on, and fast. Time to get another idea. Except I’m always one who invests slowly in a business or anything – and this blog means more to me to build up than something I don’t care about. I hope I am running it with common sense, rather than by the seat of my pants, but only a bit more time may tell. And I’m going to give it that time, just like a baby. Or a novel for that matter.
