Samantha wrote me requesting a mention and link to her babynames site, Quick Baby Names. She will be having a miscellaneous writing resources page on quickbabynames.com, and as a writer I know well how important a name can be. If you are anything like me, then you may well spend hours selecting just the right name for your character.
Many of us do use the resources provided on the net to search out first names, some resorting to telephone directories or family names for the surnames of our characters. Quick Baby Names is a welcome addition to this extremely important task of all fictional writers.
The site has over 20,000 searchable baby names and their meanings, with popularity charts based on U.S. statistics, and a nifty little name
“filter” that makes choosing a baby name a whole lot easier. There is a style filter also, which allows you to find 70′s babynames, or perhaps those from the wild west? An additional bonus is the capability on-site to listen to the pronunciation of the names. And other languages aside from English are catered for also.
Personal note : I was surprised to find a dozen variations on my reasonably bog standard name of Michelle also.
