Social Media Dashboard MindMap

Social Media Dashboard MindMap

Writers online should be aware of the opportunities and networking potential (not to mention the distraction factor, and the all important fun factor) that today’s social media offers. As a Part 3 followup to my own series on Social Media, I would like to introduce you to how I now organise my own social media participation, informally, using an overall dashboard in Mindjet’s MindManager software to collect all of my sites and details together.

This Map started off being strictly for social media connections – things like Twitter, Facebook etc. But because of the inter-connectivity between those sites and this blog, the dashboard became a bigger toolkit than that, now including all the links between the various websites and feeds onto and out of each media site, and other content sites I utilise.

I keep a key of icons showing particular hints towards feeds and publications on each media, plus the hyperlink to access the sites themselves.

The notes attached to each media link contain additional information, including logon details to each site. This is an excellent way to contain all those differing profile names, email addresses, and passwords for everything all on the one page. As I am using MindManager to contain this information, I can password protect the entire document by encrypting also.

Although it may look a busy map, I found that documenting everything in this way has produced a much more productive approach to my own social media strategies. I am currently moving over to producing some other content to publish elsewhere, and into a more community orientated approach, and such findings as blog carnivals and communities I can join can also go onto my map as I go.

  3. Social Media – free ebook guides. I thoroughly recommend downloading the two free e-books available on the Altitude Branding blog, written by Amber Naslund. “Getting a Foothold in Social Media” provides an introduction to social media for small businesses. “Social Media Starter Kit – Tools” describes some of those basic tools you should be registered on and using. Check out the series entitled, “Social Media Starter Kit” on the blog also.
  4. Brian Solis is a recognised expert on social media within the blogging community. He has written a series of e-books on the subject and offers them from his blog, PR2.0 and Scribd. Ebooks include “The Art and Science of Blogger Relations” and “The Essential Guide to Social Media” and “The Socialization of your Personal Brand” Look right down the right hand sidebar for links to these ebooks.
  5. Brian Solis’s own mindmanager social map is what first prompted me to organise my own social media into this dashboard mindmap. This was first noticed by me when I linked to Mindjet’s article on the subject.

    Hi Michelle,

Thanks so much for recommending my e-books. I’m really glad they’re helpful. And I’m *so* envious that mindmaps are helpful for you. I’ve struggled with them for years trying to make them work for me, and I just don’t think my mind works that way. But it’s constantly interesting to me to see how other people use them. Maybe one of these days I’ll have a breakthrough! :)

    Cheers,
    Amber
